California Bankruptcy Lawyer Will Head ABI
Geoffrey Berman will become president of the American Bankruptcy Institute in the spring of next year.
A California bankruptcy attorney was recently announced as the president-elect of a national industry institute.
Geoffrey Berman, who is with Development Specialists Inc. in Los Angeles, was picked by the American Bankruptcy Institute's board to head the organization. His tenure as president will start during the group's spring meeting in 2011.
Berman has been a member of the ABI since 1991 and has served on a number of its committees. He has been a vice president for its publications division and was head of the ABI's Task Force on general Assignments, while also writing pieces for the group.
"Berman is also a member of the Los Angeles, Orange County and Bay Area Bankruptcy Forums and the Association of Insolvency Accountants, and is a frequent lecturer on bankruptcy and insolvency subjects," the ABI said.
Recently, the ABI executive director Samuel Gerdano said the group expects the number of those filing bankruptcy to get past 1.5 million by the end of this year, which would be the highest number seen since new laws were put in place.
